september 2009 - last month i began to think this hotel life was getting to me. i am now almost certain it's bumming me out on a variety of levels - mentally, physically, emotionally, but i'm trying to continue to brush it off. it could be a lot worse, i know.
let's see... i ran a race, traveled 3 of the 4 weekends, and only really got in one long run. yikes! i think the work-relocation has interfered with my ambitious nyc training plan these past few months and i failed to realize that early on (uh like july) to scale back appropriately. (ie: i thought i could run 80+ mpw while also working 50+ hrs and all that stupid commuting? riiiiiight.) all things considered, i am definitely proud of sucking it up and throwing down some 50-60 mile weeks.
my legs feel heavy just about everyday so i've been more diligent about stretching, wearing compression socks and icing (kind of). nothing seems to help and they still feel full of cement. i sure hope they lighten up when taper time (finally) rolls around.
total mileage: 224.51
time spent running: 32:40:16
avg pace: 8:56/mile
days off: 6 (some improvement from august, but could've been better)
avg resting hr: 57.17 (skewed from one morning when it was 69, norm is 50-54)
avg max hr: 173.75
pushups: unsure - i got a set of "fitdeck" cards for my b-day and did a few rotations of those throughout the month

ReplyDeletethey WILL lighten up i promise :) you got another great month in there. seriously i dont know how you do it with everything else going on.
ReplyDeleteYou have a lot going on...tapering will really help...just hold on girl!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain about work. I am beyond impressed that you can find the energy to get that kind of mileage in as well. Keep up the good work...hang in there!
ReplyDeleteYou're doing so well- hope your taper goes well, and then, the big MARATHON :) I know you'll rock it!
ReplyDeleteGreat month of running and juggling life, Lindsey! I hear you on the concrete legs! The taper is close!!!
ReplyDeleteI am sure taper will help your legs feel lighter. How much longer do you have to live in a hotel?? Your doing great, keep it up.
ReplyDeleteGreat job in September! You'll rock the place in NYC.
ReplyDeleteJust a couple more weeks before taper. You CAN DO IT. Running on tired legs will certainly help during the last few marathon miles. Legs will surely feel fresh and springy after taper. You ran a ton this month!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that you can run that many miles each month while working/commuting/travelling so much! I guess it's all in where you put your priorities, but your dedication is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI'm nearing the end of Week 1 of Taper and already my legs feel fantabulous... just hang tight girl!!! Great stats for the month all things considered!
ReplyDeleteI think you are doing great. Just a bit tired I am sure. Take a rest day and regroup. You'll be back to your old self in no time.
ReplyDeleteYou've had a heavy schedule this summer and I think you've kept up your mileage amazingly well. Hopefully those legs will start to feel better during taper so you're fresh & fast for race day!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the legs will lighten up! You've had a lot going on with insane work and commute and all!
ReplyDeleteP.S. You've been tagged :)
My legs felt like a million bucks when I tapered, and they didn't even feel like cement before. They're feeling a little cement-ish now because I'm increasing things...but nothing like 50 to 60 miles of increase.
ReplyDeleteAlso, that's a great resting heart rate. I happened to get mine checked the other day and it was 63which is down from like 75-80 several months ago.
So, does that mean I need to run like you to pull a 54 resting hr? :)
You ARE doing great. Keep it up.
Still a very impressive month of running despite the long work hours and commuting. Way to hang in there and keeping up with the not-so-pleasant hotel life!
ReplyDeleteWow, what an amazing month! You are awesome, to find the time to run so many miles and still work and commute. You are definitely an inspiration! Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteJust to answer your question, I used Hammer apple and cinnamon on that last long run.
ReplyDeleteAs a fellow business traveler who used to live out of a suitcase - I find it incredible that you got 225 miles in last month! WOW! Great way to keep up the traveling and the training! And yes - I the whole hotel thing really does take it out of me - that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteYou are totally amazing...I don't know how you even run as much as you do with all that work craziness! But it's almost taper time...yay!
ReplyDeleteDANG If I ran that mileage I would be DONE with my 1,000 mile goal..
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you have been stretching! I think you are REALLY going to deserve (and need) that taper! Then maybe relax a bit after?
ReplyDeleteI am utterly AMAZED that you can even run 50-60 MPW with the travel & work schedule you have. Don't be too hard on yourself. Maybe you need to treat yourself more, like a massage to help get rid of some of that cement feeling?
ReplyDeleteMy legs feel heavy too. My new shoes have helped a lot. Maybe yours are getting old?
ReplyDeleteI think you're doing a fine job with everything on your plate! We all have ambitious goals waaaayyy back in July...and then reality sets in! 224 miles is a good month.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the same boat with the cement like legs...and I can't wait for the taper...get here already!
Keep up the faith...nycm will be here before we know it!
Hell yeah you should be proud of throwing down those 50-60 mile weeks! I'm getting all excited hitting the 30mpw mark over here, & I don't even have the insano work/commute schedule you do.
ReplyDeleteGirl, you are made of rock! Will your workload lighten up in the future or your schedule change???
ReplyDeleteword verification: frangsta.... is that like gangsta? cause you mileage is so gangsta?
I don't know how you do it! Keep it up girl!
ReplyDeleteYou're doing an awesome job- I can't imagine running that much while living in a hotel, traveling, commuting, etc. Also, don't forget that Jack beats you down before bringing you back up. It's how he rolls. And his VDOT tables don't lie. SO don't be afraid to embrace your goals.
ReplyDeleteI'm in a tough work stretch myself, but I build confidence after a long hard day and still make it out the door for my training run. If I can do it on tough days, then the easy days are that much easier.
ReplyDeleteI am continually amazed by how much you accomplish despite your hectic work/commuting schedule. Hang in there . . . you're almost there. Taper will help those legs get back to their normal, springy selves :)
