finally

a decent run! i really don't know what's going on, but i am glad i had a good run at last. i've been feeling very pokey lately, and my pace has definitely shown it. thankfully monday evening i went out for a run in 84 degrees and surprisingly, it was a pleasant little run. either all the slogginess is starting to pay off, or all the m&m's i ate monday afternoon were magical. of course i'm leaning towards "needing" m&m's personally...

monday (6/7) pm run: 6.5 miles, 56:57 (avg pace 8:46), 84*
compared to....
sunday (6/6) am run: 4.75 miles, 45:18 (avg pace 9:32), 77*

what is up, self?

week in review (5/24 - 5/30)
total miles: 41.75 *finally crested the elusive 40-mile week
time spent running: ~ 6 hrs 10 mins
avg hr: 163.50
avg run pace: 8:51/mile
off days: 1

week in review (5/31 - 6/6)
total miles: 37.00
time spent running: ~5 hrs 44 mins
avg hr: 165.33
avg run pace: 9:17
off days: 1

well when i look at it this way, it doesn't seem like i'm slowing down totally - just some days. maybe i can blame it on the heat/humidity a little afterall.

  1. I am learning that some really really easy runs are necessary. I don't take my watch with me on these 2 runs. WIth a watch, I push it too much. I think if you let yourself go kenyan easy, your legs will get speedier the other days! Also, why push the speed now, when you are in base? Go easy on yourself:)

  2. I'm glad that you had a good run! Maybe it is the humidity. I agree with you, though, that M&Ms are probably a necessity.

  3. Congrats on the 40 mile week, that's totally awesome. I think it's probably the humidity, because it takes a lot out of you physically. Even heat without humidity isn't as bad. That's why it's so hard to run in SC in August! One thing about it here is you gotta remember there's a big difference in 80 degrees with 30% humidity (somewhere else) and 80 degrees with 70% humidity (here). It's craziness!

  4. It's got to be the M+Ms. I am going to try them too.

  5. It has got to be the M&Ms!

I thought of you and your M&Ms while watching the Daily Show last night. Jon Steward made a joke about the MMS (Minerals Management Service) involved in the BP mess. He said that only thing worse than the MMS is the peanut MMS. haha.

Are you preferential to a certain type of M&Ms? I don't think you have ever said. Plain, peanut, the elusive peanut butter, a particular seasonal color??? Or do you just like the ones with an "m" on them?

  7. Yay for good runs! They have been few and far between for me lately. I'm in a rut lately, on top of having little time to run.

  8. probably a bit of the m&m's and a bit of settling back into a normal routine. Feels good when things start to click again though, yeah?

  17. I'm not sure where you are but the temps here are all over the place, it makes it hard to acclimate and get into a nice groove. I'm glad you got a nice run in though, bet it felt great! :)

  21. Just a matter of spending time in the moisture intense oven - Great job with the runs. You are looking stronger each day. Any plans for a fall marathon?

  22. just enjoy the time right now where you aren't "having" to hit the paces. basebuilding is just about running and keeping the pace easy. nice job getting over the 40 mile hump!

  25. The temp and humidty can make or break you - your fitness has not changed much in a week.

  26. Hi Lindsay,
Woo hoo! I am so glad to hear that your running is coming around again! You and your M&Ms:) God bless you!

  27. It was probably the M&M's. Still working on gaining 50lbs for the dress?

Something must have clicked though, to be running a faster pace in the warmer temperatures. I still blame the heat/humidity for my recent slowdown.

  28. If this is you slowing down then I'll take it! :-) I'm glad you had a good run...it's never good to have those yuck runs!

  29. Looks like you are snapping back into it. Way to go Lindsay. I feel the same way and slow down in the heat and want to blame it on the heat, I do it. May you be careful this summer out there down in Souf Carolina girl.

  30. Yes, it's the heat, but 37-40 mile weeks sound good! Hopefully, your body is getting used to the heat.

  31. Yay for a good run! Hopefully there's MANY more in your future.

  32. Glad you had a good run! I know you feel better after the ones that were not so great! Actually, those last few weeks look pretty darn good to me. I totally think it's the heat and humidity that's keeping us all just a little off track this time of year. Just keep toughing it out, so I can keep getting motivated by you! Hope you have more good runs!

  33. Though it sounds horrible and I hate to say it, "It's good someone else has my problem running in heat".

This has been a really hard several weeks upping my mileage. Being able to check in with you on how you're doing is really helpful and keeps me motivated and confident.

Johnny B.H. is taking questions. So, if you have anything that you're concerned about don't forget to ask!

  34. Blame it on the heat, that's what I say. And the M&Ms, they truly do have magical powers, u didn't hear?
