what not to wear

now that i'm back in the "real" world where you have to dress normally, some days i humor myself with seeing how slack i can be in the clothing department. other days i just get frustrated at having to "dress up" and desperately try to pick out something that looks decent/appropriate.

why i should be featured on "what not to wear":

exhibit a: pants too big? no problem, just roll them down like high school cheerleaders and their soffee shorts. (pardon my disheveled shirt - i don't wear it like this out in public)

exhibit b: either some shirts shrank or my boobs grew. put on a sports bra (yippi) and a wife beater to keep these buttons from popping off. (see above for classy wife beater)

exhibit c: just plain feeling lazy? wear a 'dressy' solid color tee from the gap. i wear a fleece year-round in the air conditioning anyway so it's not like people know i'm just wearing a t-shirt.

exhibit d: the cute heels i have in my shoe room*. cute, yes. comfortable, heck no. 99.9% of the time i wear my classy boat shoes. so dressy, so feminine. (buddy practicing yoga in the background, and yes i own more than four pairs of shoes. those black ankle boots? never worn them.)

*living alone = shoes get their own room and running clothes get their own room. not sure where the kids would live if i were to have any. backyard?

exhibit e: dress socks = christmas socks. year-round. i'd be more than happy to wear other-holiday socks, but they seem to be discriminated against in stores.

ahh well, technically i'm abiding by all the office dress code rules so i'm not too motivated most mornings. i'm not sure if i could change my lazy ways even if stacy and clinton showed up at my door anyway. :)

  1. LOL, best post ever. You have reminded me that I need to clean out my closet and do a little shopping! I also live alone and have an entire bedroom that functions as a closet, it's brilliant :)

  2. Oh yeah, you would. $5000 gift card? Yes please! They would introduce you to empire waist summer dresses with a little cardigan and you will never.go.back. (Dresses = do.easy.)

  3. Um. Love Buddy and his yoga pose in the background of the shoes. I just learned yesterday that he was staying with you. Glad to know he hasn't run away any! I have the same black boots and have worn them ONCE, remember we bought them together???

  4. I'm the same way. Luckily, our office just went to casual dress code. We can wear jeans and tennis shoes but no t-shirts. I'm so not the dressy up girl, so I've started wearing different color polos everyday with jeans and tennis shoes. Stacey and Clinton would have a field day with me, I'm sure!

  5. I hate dressing up for work too. Good thing is my "work" clothes last a long time b.c as soon as I get home, I'm back to sport bras, t-shirts and shorts. Been debating on khakis and polos for my new work wardrobe....if the guys can do it so can I.

  6. I am cracking up over here because I am soooo lazy with my work-wear. It's a pretty casual environment, but I have been known to cross the line. :/

  7. Stacy and Clinton would have a field day with me... and I kind of want them to. I need help! :-)

  8. That's great! I think you could show them the door with that strategy. And I would love my own shoe room...

  9. I would love to be on what not to wear!!! Graet shoe collection too.

  10. I'm glad I get to wear the same thing to work everyday and not have to worry about what to wear - Co uniform white collard button down shirt and khaki pants. Love your humor and how you look at the lighter side of life.

  11. But...how do you integrate your race shirts?

  12. That's awesome. I'd gladly go on that show for $5000 in clothes, although I'd want to all of my shopping at REI.

  13. I love those Xmas socks, I am actually thinking about a pair for my next marathon.

  14. I love getting to wear scrubs. I've had to play office dress up before & I'm not very good at it.

  15. Ha!!

Target has lots of other holiday socks. Easter, halloween, what have you. You could EASILY add to that collection!

  16. I always get holiday socks at Target!

    The shirt cracks me up!

  17. All summer long I rock dresses. It requires me to not match anything. And they all go with my cute black sandals. Takes me about two seconds to get dressed in the morning. The winter is another story.

  18. Gotta love the colorful GAP tees! And what about dresses or skirts? Those are easy too.

  19. Lindsay, you never fail to make me laugh. That first picture in the button down shirt is awesome. Makes me glad we don't have an actual "dress" code but I push it by wearing mini skirts since it's the closest I can get to actually wearing shorts!! And I miss having more than one room for clothes (sigh)

  20. Do I need to have a Halloween Sock Give away just for you? I THINK SO!

    ReplyDelete
  21. LMAO! I totally rock Christmas socks as dress socks too! Absolutely love this post!

  22. Man, I could never go back to working at a place where I had to dress up every day to go to work, unless the required dress was a casual top and shorts :-)

But pants too big sounds like a nice thing to me :-)

  23. Funny post. I probably should dress up but I don't.

  24. Read your gu story and you've got me thinking about gu. I never knew they had mint. Just makes me want to go out and shake a leg again. I love chocolate outrage.

I love watching that show. I wonder if they ever work with pregnant mamas.

  25. At least the pants are too big and not too small!

I have a closet full of dress/nice clothes that I never wear. I work from home, so my dress code only requires that I wear clothes.

I would not do well with a formal dress code.

    ReplyDelete
  26. LMAO!!! I think we have the exact same wardrobe...except you have cuter heels.

    ReplyDelete
  27. hahaha the christmas socks crack me up. you have some really cute shoes!

    ReplyDelete
  28. LOL well at least you have a nice new hoodie!

  29. Ha, you are hilarious. It would be awesome to get the 5 grand though. Ill have to use your sports bra idea! Haha.

  30. Funny post! I like it and good pictures Lindsay you're a teacher for me.

  31. You are too funny Lindsay. I am not really into buying clothes or anything. I would even wear the same shorts all week. .....just have to give them the sniff test. lol. My job doesnt require me to dress up at all so that is awesome. Don't know what the hell I would do at an office job. Could I wear the same suit all week? A friend of mine said, all you have to do is change ties. New tie = new suit. lol. Love the idea of having a room for running clothes. Let it Snow.

  32. Thank God my job requires scrubs! I have absolutely NO fashion sense. Somehow, I'm actually OK with that!!

    Great post!

  33. working at home, this post cracked me up.

  34. LOL. GO SHOPPING! Just kidding but this is hilarious. My office is super fashion conscious so I have to be on it all the time!

  35. I'm kinda having fun dressing all girly and proper while I'm not running... but believe me - when i finally run, i'm in my running clothes 24/7 and not showering

    ReplyDelete
  36. I wear yoga pants and running shoes to work and sometimes lament that I cannot wear flipflops.

  37. Love it!! They could hit up South Carolina at the same time and do us both :)

  38. LOL...great post! I hear ya...I hate shopping for office clothes and wearing office clothes. I have 2 suits that I have never and will never wear...and the clothes I like to wear are near tatters!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Buddy is cool! Wow 38 comments! That's cool!

  40. You crack me up! I know all about the "I'm pretending to be dressed up, but not really" thing. My favourite trick for that are leggings and a dress. Feels like you are wearing sweats, but really, nope, you are dressed up!

I thought I was crazy with a shoe closet, but you have a shoe room? You win! :)

  41. Sometimes it's nice to just be a guy. Fashion involves making sure the colors I'm wearing are at least complimentary.

By the way - your idea of cuttig mysef some slack is pretty brilliant. This week seems to be pretty good. I'll wait to see how next week goes to make a decision.

  42. Well, 5k on a new wardrobe would be fun, regardless, yes??? I promise not to submit your name, there'd be a chance they'd come over to my closet making sure I knew what I was talking about and they'd quickly run screaming. They'd have to give me 10K :). I do so love your shoes, though...very cute but I'm with ya on the heels. Here's a tip: flats. And I love that your dog can do yoga, very impressive!

  43. lol i love that show. and i love stacey and clinton. i also want to be on it and finally have clothes with styyyyyle. i just go for the drapey stuff. and jeans all the time. if not jeans then sweats :) you have CUUUUTE shoes!!!!!!!!!!! :)
