rick the marathonman

at 10:11am this morning, while watching the chicago marathon broadcast and reading over a few blogs i learned that my dear friend rick passed away yesterday. i am in complete disbelief - he wasn't an old fart and he's a runner! runner's are healthy!

rick and i met at the new york marathon, he was concerned for me that morning like he was my own father. we grew as friends over the past two years through our running, blogs and good ol' facebook. he was a wonderful friend (and fellow mets fan) and i miss him incredibly.

run in peace, rick.

(thanks jill, for letting me know)

  3. Hello… Is always a hard moment to live the knowledge that a friend has gone away for always. And much more when, as in this case you have shared sport races and objectives. I feel much the event. and I send a strong hug to you,

  8. :(

Oh goodness, I'm so sorry, Lindsay. Reading through his blog, this is hitting home for me in a number of different ways that I won't go into here. My heart is breaking for Rick's family.

Everybody who can should go give their dad a big hug.

  10. Always scary when another runner goes down running (especially if you knew the person). It's a sobering thought that even though we're (usually) healthy, we can go at any time, without warning. On the other hand, that's life in general. Many, many non-runners die while not running, so let's all run one for Rick :).

  23. Sorry for you and the blogger world Lindsay. I was still just getting to know Rick and understanding his passion for life. But this is why we live life to its fullest.
I ate some pretzel M&M's today to combat the initial sorrow, I hope you can find a similar path toward healing.

  24. I am so sorry for the sudden loss of your friend, Lindsey. I went to Rick's blog and read up on his last day. I am assuming his heart gave out on his run and I hope his family and friends take comfort in knowing thatRick died doing what he loved to do. I always say that if I had a choice I would love to cross over on a run!
