but i have boobs!

[i'm easy. wonder what kind of hits i'll get with this title.]

week in review (9/28 - 10/4):
total miles: 61.00
time spent running: ~ 8 hours 56 minutes
avg hr: 145.71 (too much easy running, perhaps?)
avg pace: 8:42/mile (avg temp: 59.8*)
off days: 0 (sorta... two non-stellar days)

monday through friday, heavy legs. still not sure what's going on with them entirely, but they felt better during saturday's 5k and they weren't as heavy on sunday for an easy 18-miler. i was tired and slower than i would've preferred on sunday's long run, but i think it was probably just from running 15 miles on saturday. i took monday (10/5) off completely so hopefully that put an official end to my concrete legs.

there are just shy of four full weeks left until new york. to close out these last few weeks, i think i'm going to shoot for 60 miles (this week), 55-60 next week, 45-50 (week 1 of taper), and then ~50 the week of the marathon (which includes the 26.2, so not much mileage otherwise).

ohh and i got my start info! if i am interpreting it correctly, it appears i'm in wave 1 - blue start, professional men. i hope they realize i'm not a man. i'm not trying to undergo testing like caster semenya. i know, there are like 14,000 people in each wave and i'm just thrown in with the pro men. if only that meant i would be sardined in with ryan hall!

  3. I can't believe NYC is only four weeks away! I'm sure you'll be with other boobs too!

  4. Well, maybe not Ryan Hall...but would you settle for me =P I'm in Wave 1, Blue Start as well!

I'm glad your cement legs have de-cemented. Mine have not yet gotten to that stage...

  5. If you see any cute speedsters out there in front could you pass my name along? ;)

  6. Ha! Love the title!
Ohh, how cool!! That's so awesome! I'm living my fast running life through you. :)

  8. In 1967 Kathy Switzer was the first woman to run Boston with a number. She was registered as K. Switzer as women were no allowed to run in those days. You can do it now in NYC.
Keep on pushing, target is close.

  9. Your mileage is AMAZING! Well done! Very exciting that it's almost taper time already... Well done. I can't wait to hear how you go!

  10. Way to hit the extra high mileage! Interesting placement. I have no doubt you can play with the big boys.

  11. Great week! Nice taper plan. An 18 miler on the heels of a 15 miler with a race! That's pretty good!!

  12. I'm sure my legs would feel like cement running 18 after 15 that included a 5K (they kill me!).

Yay for being in Wave 1!

  13. Yeahhh, you must be destined for super-speedy greatness! And I really hope for your sake that you are sandwiched against Ryan Hall :)

  14. It seems like running fast helps with the cement legs... I can't believe you ran 15 miles and than 18 the next day! Awesome! I think this back to back is going to be really helpful in NYC. I sense your mojo is back! 2 more week of training, and then time to slack off, although a 50 mile taper for week 1 is noooo slacking:)

  15. You kill me, you know that? Oh I think I'll only run 50+ miles... Yawn... B*tch. ;)

Girl you are going to kill it and I LOVE that you are starting with the guys!!!! Chick them like you've never chicked before!!!

  16. Love the post title! Hah!

So... are you going to try to have your wave corrected, or just run with it?

Just think of all those skinny fast guys checkin' you out. ;)

  17. LOL! Awesome that you got a front starting positin. However, if you look over and are keeping pace with Ryan Hall you may want to slow down a bit.

  18. Good luck in NY! Have you run it before? The start is pretty crazy.

  19. What about gels and my stinky fuel belt? You shuld have seen the bachelor pad that I lived in in college!

Don't know it you've read this article - Taper Traps but on page 4 is a discussion about heavy legs. Don't know if that is what is going on, but maybe it will point you in the right direction.

Good luck on taper! If you don't hear from me on Monday, just look in the obituaries....

  20. Haha oh man I only wish you could get sardined against Ryan Hall haha!

  21. If you get sardined with Ryan then you better take about 1,000 photos and give us a second by second recount.

Your taper sounds good-- don't forget to do the 1200 T workout-- keeps those legs fresh!

  22. Ha! But I have boobs too!

Have a good few weeks! Those numbers look good!

  23. I think you should work your way to the front and pace the elite men through the first 400 m. You might make the TV broadcast!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think you should run with your gargantuan ring on and let the sun bounce off the diamond into the men's eyes and then race ahead of them while they are all blinded.
Not that you need to cheat, but it would be funny.

  25. um thats pretty awesome to be up there with the fasties though, oh wait arent you a fastie?? :) great job on the week girl, its ALMOST taper time!!

  26. Better to start closer in the front than the back, I'm assuming. You're literally competing with the big boys! It sounds like NYC is just around the corner. Good luck on the tapering and hoe those cement legs go away for good!!

  27. Sorry Lindsay! Sent the wrong link. Here's the right one to the Taper Traps article: Taper Traps .

And yes - I'm right there with you on the 24 week plan. I did it to try to build more base, but it has definitely contributed to some burnout issues over the last couple or three weeks. Even yesterday I was trying to figure out how to justify running fewer miles than was on plan. The next time I think I'll settle on a 16/18 week plan with longer long runs.

  28. Puhleeeze, girl. You can totally take on the dudes!

    Show them how it's done!!

  29. Those professional men won't know what 'em, they better watch out!

  30. I saw your posts back and forth with Jill on twitter the other day about this - it cracked me up - i literally laughed out loud as I was walking into work.

    That is way too funny.

and um yeah, you are running more during your last taper week or the week before than I ever did while training for a marathon. :-)
