mood: lifted

hello amazing fall weather! the summer didn't seem *that* hot, but i think spending 2 weeks in the south pacific "winter" helped break it up. darn, i guess we'll have to go every summer! don't get me wrong, it was certainly hot and humid here in south carolina, but it seemed a little more bearable this year (probably because i didn't run as much and spent more time in the air conditioned house). my electric bill was higher compared to last year now that i think about it.

anyway. it's been wonderfully cool here the past few days, with highs hitting the mid/upper 70's. it's a lovely break from the past 6+ months of 90 degrees and 1048204% humidity. california, i'm not all that sympathetic for you and your one week of hot weather, even if one day did hit 118-ish. be glad it's only one week of hotness and your humidity stays under control. :o)

i had a very enjoyable lunch run on tuesday. it wasn't long, but that's ok. i didn't feel all the "general fatigue" i've been feeling which is a definite win. apparently a little walk warm-up seems to help, and i can handle that.

tuesday (9/28) lunch run: 3.4 miles, 30:10 (avg pace 8:53), 72*
warm up mile (including the walking bit) - 9:34
"tempo" mile - 7:56
easy but could've been easier mile back - 9:03
extra 0.4 easy to run an even 30:00 - 3:35 (9:01 pace)
ok, ok, 30:10. once i got to 30mins i "needed" to round up to even mileage.

i was elated to see that i can in fact run the paces i used to. sure this was only a 3-mile run, but so was my run ten days prior and that pace was a solid two minutes/mile slower.

wednesday (9/29) pm run: 4.1 miles, 37:34 (avg pace 9:10), 62*
1) awesome weather
2) old 'easy' pace again
3) did not feel like death

now if i can string some sleep-filled nights together, we just may be in business again.

  2. i feel like cali should never be allowed to complain about the weather because it's sooooo nice out for maybe 364 days of the year. glad you feel the same ;)

i'm jealous of your lunchtime run. i wish i could get away from the office like that!

  3. YAY for successful runs!

I agree that this summer wasn't as bad as some in the past. Maybe I'm just getting used to it though.

  4. Nice running. We're starting to get cooler weather too. Highs only 85 or so (much more tolerable than 95-100). Also means cooler mornings (55-60) which I LOVE

  5. Yay for you!! If you can do it, then there's hope for me, right?? I did 4x1-mile repeats yesterday at "MP" (well, let's rephrase that to "old MP when I used to be in shape") of 8:20 and I was gagging on a lung. I was extremely discouraged. Didn't stop me from eating a billion Fritos later, just to help make that pace even slower the next day - haha. I'm very excited for you...you ARE coming around.

It's been in the 90's in Denver, which is about 20 degrees warmer than it's suppose to be. Summer just won't let go here. Watch, next week it will snow and we'll totally bypass fall. Enjoy your nice lunch time running weather :).

  6. Glad to hear the good news. Maybe it is the M+Ms! Small bags are calorie free and supply lots of energy right!

  8. Damn woman, those times are great! With those numbers, you'll easily be able to not only have a chocolate milk waiting for me but also grill me a nice elk burger or two! ;)

  10. Back in the gaaaaame!

And right on dishing it to California. I don't care about their three days of heat either. Far more sympathy is merited to those who continue to suffocate in the heat/humidity combo of the more eastern part of the country...

  13. Making progress! Great job.

And I'm not sympathetic to Calif. either--they don't even have humidity, and, they have great winters! I would trade.

  14. Running in the heat is one thing, but string in some swamp ass weather and ewwww, gross. haha. Talk about a total turn around, you are blazing. Never mind on doing a marathon together now. Not with you Mrs. Perfect speedy pants! JK. Anyways, it's nice to see you are enjoying a little bit of crack in your running regime. Take care and make sure you keep your rockets fueled for some good blasts! Funnel Cakes works beautifully!

  19. Perfect. Now, just keep doing that. Run short and whatever pace feels right. It's easier to get motivated when you only have to run 3 or 4 miles. Consistency is key - even if consistency is short runs. Eventually, it will be easy to get motivated when you only have to run 6 miles, but that won't happen tomorrow.

  25. Ha ha ha! Yes. Us Californian's are such weather wimps. We're actually moving ito our hot time of the year, but even so, our "humid" day is when the RH his 40%. Okay. Maybe 45%.
