i was back home for july 4th and after being a dedicated little runner all week long, my mojo tanked and threw a temper tantrum about going for a run on sunday morning. i was, however, randomly in the mood for a bike ride and tagged along with josh for 27+ miles. i stuffed some chomps and gu's in my shirt pocket and josh pointed out "you know 27 miles is like the equivalent of 5-6 miles running". hey, like i need an excuse to eat chomps here.
wow was it tough. there was one particular loooong downhill that as i coasted my only thought was "this is going to suck on the way back" (turns it out it was only about 350ft climb over 2 miles, i'm such a wimp). i don't know how you cyclists/biathletes/triathletes do it. i'd like to blame my slowness on my bike, a trek 7000 hybrid. c'mon that's like 30 lbs heavier than all you carbon fiber riders! :)
mine is complete with a bell and kickstand! don't hate.

ReplyDeleteWe should team up for golf. I golf left handed and all of my drives end up two fairways to the left. Between the two of us, it should average out to straight shots. haha
ReplyDeleteSucks about your laptop. You should be good though. I think Apple fixes most things within a year for no cost. If all else fails, pull out all the stops and either a) flirt with the genius bar worker and/or b) start crying. haha :)
Great bike ride too. 14mph on a hybrid bike is a great pace! And I read somewhere (possibly Runners World) that 1 mile running = 3 miles running, so it was more like a 9 mile run. :)
That bike ride translates in a 9 mile run:) And I have a road bike, but aluminum, 29 lbs...

What? Your MAC quit after just four months? Criminal! I'd be lost and not just because of the Garmin info. Good job keeping up with the running and being so dedicated.

ReplyDeleteI can believe how can yo do 37-45 miles average everyweek now in June/July... I know you have heat and humidity high! like here in Valencia! I can't do long, long distance but it isn't problem, I'll do.

A bell and a kickstand? You are just awesome. I still have not found the time to simply air up my tires. Great job on your running last week. One of my elderly neighbors just gave me a set of OLD golf clubs and I have been practicing some, but they make it look so easy to just hit a freaking ball dont they? lol. Glad you enjoyed yourself last week. Take care now. I need to plan a trip down to Murytle Beach soon, if not the summer, next.

ReplyDeleteSo funny about the bike! When I bike I always post - "it's a hybrid" - as an excuse for why I'm so slow. I am NOT a biker. Thanks for the laugh about, apparently, our common ineptitude for biking. Funny!

ReplyDeleteSince I know nothing about cycling, I'm always curious about the time/effort "equivalents" of bike-ride miles and other cross-training miles to running miles. Looks like a pretty solid ride!! Sorry to hear about the mac. My old dell recently ate it too. Ponying up for a new computer isn't fun. Blegh! Glad you could rescue some of your info, though!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite part of the Ragnar Relay last year was during the night when they allowed a bike "escort" for the runners. We would run our leg, hand off the bracelet, then hop on the bike to trail the next runner. It was a great way to cool down and beat hopping right into the van after the run. I suppose it's a little easier to bike 7 miles at runner pace than it is to bike 27 at cyclist pace, though.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I don't like about biking--spend 2 hours on the thing and all you have is a sore butt and a workout equivalent to an easy run. Oh well, your joints will thank you, right?
