on the mend

thanks for all the nice comments on my "running-nose"! i pretty much slept all afternoon/evening with the exception of waking up at 9pm to watch "the event" - the one tv show i watch via rabbit ears. as any guy would - josh just looooves not having cable. he's been campaigning for a year or so now. i don't watch much tv (or care to) so i've never bothered to get it.

anyway, i still didn't feel great tuesday morning, but after taking a cat nap on my desk at work (and waking up with my shoes off?!?) i felt slightly better. good enough to not-skip another 30-minutes at least, and i went for a short, easy run in the evening.

tuesday (10/26) pm run: 4.10 miles, 37:28 (avg pace 9:08), 78*

and now for a slightly belated look at last week -- it was a good one with improvement all around.

week in review (10/18 - 10/24)
total miles: 30.90
time spent running: ~ 4 hrs 35 mins
avg pace: 8:55
off days: 3
  • mon: early morning 9.5mi
  • tue: early morning 6mi
  • wed: yoga and abs
  • thu: 800's after work
  • fri: bike "speed work" - 10.75mi, 15.5mph
  • sat: weights and abs
  • sun: long run 10mi
monday and tuesday my old running partner was in town so i met up with her in the early mornings. i tried to keep the streak going the rest of the week, but failed at waking up with my 5am alarm. friday afternoon i decided to try a bike workout recommended by kevin. it was basically a bike-fartlek - 5min hard, 5min easy. when i got back i decided to re-read his email, turns out he had suggested 5x1min reps... no wonder it was so hard.

  4. Glad, that you feel better in the meantime! Are you going to do Spinx and/or Croft?

  5. Happy to hear you are getting better.

I used to sleep in my office at lunch everyday....sort of my :30 excercise and I would have my shoes off.

It was a perfect way to resurrect my abilities after what was more then likely a frustrating morning of emails and phone calls.

  7. Cat nap at work - I'm jealous. I just finished a 4 night stretch and could have used a few of these. I know you are enjoying the cooler temps – I am. Looking forward to long sleeve shirts.

  11. Uh oh! Over 30 miles. Look out, that qualifies as real mileage. That's like 3 times the mileage I put in last week!

  12. Glad to hear you're feeling better. Cat nap at work would scare me. Falling asleep in a hospital would be my worst nightmare. I'd wake up with all kinds of tubes and crap coming from every orifice possible!!
Be happy it was only your shoes that were off!!!

    Nice week of workouts!

  13. Yay for feeling better and I would say you have plenty of mojo! You had some great workouts!

I wish I could take a nap at work...so nice:)

  14. Coming back strong with the mileage. I agree that AM workouts are much easier to look forward to if you've got a solid pal to count on for them. And the bike workout - badass! Kinda fun that you accidentally made it way more challenging than it was supposed to be...

  15. I think naps should be a part of every work day!

  16. Cat nap at your desk? Love it! I immediately made me think of this Seinfeld episode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W__qCFWi1KA

Poor Josh! Although, I probably could live without cable if it wasn't for sports.

Great numbers this week! Especially on the bike ;)

  19. You are turning into a running machine Lindsay! I don't like having cable either. The only thing I watch is the Filipino channels to try and learn tagalog. lol. I hate the other channels, as they have become very stupid with all of this reality this, reality that bull shit. I hate cable, I hate cable, but I will watch 'The Shining" with Jack Nicholson every night. lol. Btw, who needs cable if you have internet connection. hahaha. and who needs cable if you have awesome blogs to read, btw, hope you are feeling better. Don't you hate it when you can only breath out of one nose hole, and then an hour later it switches? Take care and keep running. You are kicking major ASS man!

  20. Oh, that was a picture of a running nose? Now I get it.

If my TV would run away like your nose, life would be great. I can't turn the damn thing off quick enough.

Nice week, shame your running partner can't hang in town longer, but there is NOTHING better than sleeping through that early alarm.

  21. Now that's getting comfortable!

And, yes, that would be creepy if a coworker took off your shoes.

I think I'd fall asleep at the 5:00 a.m. alarm too.

  22. I'm happy that you're starting to feel better. Keep getting extra sleep!

My husband and I just saw The Event. I'm worried that the commercials for two hours special episodes of that show are going to be confusing...for example, "Next week, a special two hour The Event event."

  24. Sorry I've been MIA and missed the nose post (was out of town - eatting everything in sight, of course) so sorry to hear you were sickie!! Taking naps with shoes off at work is definitely a cure-all...so glad you are feeling slightly better!! :)

  26. Just make sure you're letting your body heal from the sickness. I am always guilty of trying to get out there so soon after getting sick and I know it can slow/has slowed my ability to recover from viruses.

I had a weird dream that we were talking about training last night... that's all I remember.

    Have a great Saturday!

  28. I so wish I could take a cat nap at work- you're pretty lucky. But that's creepy about your coworker taking off your shoes. Like, that sounds like a slumber-partyesque prank to play on a coworker, ya know?

I love the running nose! Happened to me at my last 5K- the finish line had tons of water and fruit but I really just needed kleenex! Glad you had a good easy 4 miles!

  29. Looks like you badly needed that rest. Glad you feel better. Hmm...I'm trying to imagine how those shoes came off.
