how i felt on monday |
(see kevin, i have a small window to rub in the warm weather. i had to take advantage of it while i could)
every step felt awkward and i continually scuffed the bottom of my shoes on the road. i wasn't mentally into the run, but with a mile to go i saw a kid practicing his chipping and he motivated me. i figured if this kid is out practicing golf in the afternoon heat i should htfu and put forth a better effort to 'practice' running.
monday (4/25) pm run: 5.7 miles / 9:13 avg pace / 82*
i may or may not have blamed the funk on the temperature.
on tuesday i slept through all three alarms and had to run after work again. i was in a better mood this time so the run went better. the power of the mind is an amazing thing! i took it easy but charged the hills. i'm still trying to talk myself into doing the marlene again sometime this week.
tuesday (4/26) pm run: 6.6 miles / 8:51 avg pace / 79*
my tailbone has randomly been hurting since monday afternoon. i did not fall or run into anything with my big butt, so i have no idea what's going on. it hurts (a little, not extremely) to sit down and i can feel it when i walk/run. any ideas?
Umm...last month I had a HUGE spider bit on my "tail bone." It hurt for days and days and I had NO idea what was making my fan-fan hurt. Then BS took a look. Ouch, how did a spider get down my pants???
ReplyDeleteOhhhh summer running. Horrible. Is it bad to say that I'm ready for the fall? I'm a beach-baby, but I hate running when it's so hot. Maybe being injured isn't so bad after all; perfect excuse not to run in the heat. :/
ReplyDeleteUh, please don't let it be a pilonidal cyst. k?
ReplyDeleteBut the lesson to avoid learning is probably: unexplained tailbone pain, have a quit chat with your primary physician.
Summer running is so tricky....like if you don't go in the small window of cool then you suffer!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you pulled a muscle...I did it once doing squats....completely random.
did you actually draw that?!?! i think he is amazingly cute. i think i may make him my desktop. i know you can sing so maybe you've got a creative edge :)
ReplyDeleteit was 81 today where i am just enough in from the water around boston(the weather has been all over the place) and WHOA it felt HOT. i'm not sure i'm ready for the 80s.
I can't believe you slept through 3 alarms. The second mine goes off I'm up. I may hit the snooze but I'm up immediately. That sucks but way to go still getting out there and getting it done - in spite of the heat. Before long in KC it will be 85-90 degrees with 100% humidity at 4am. We can't get away from the heat of the summer no matter what time we run in the summer. It's tough. Love the giraffe pic - reminds me of that commercial with the mini giraffe - so cute :)
ReplyDeleteYou and Mr. Chasingthekenyans could always move to Texas, then you'd really know what running in the heat is like. But, I admit, 82 degrees is very uncomfortable.
ReplyDeletemaybe you've been sitting down too much lately and that's why your butt/tail bone hurt? i dunno.
ReplyDeleteway to htfu and get those miles in. three alarms? wow. that is talent my friend.
Ass.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if you actually woke up with your alarm you wouldn't have this problem. Quick being lazy.
I know those runs so-o-o-o well. They've happened less-frequently since I started waking up before dawn (shoot me).
ReplyDeleteYou are still maintaining some good mileage day to day despite foot and motivation issues.
I crushed those Reese's for you today. The recommended serving size was 11 but I had at least 18!
Ugh I HATE running in the heat. GOod for you for powering through.
ReplyDeleteDid you spend a lot of time sitting recently? I find my tailbone gets sore if I spend an unusual amount of time sitting down (long car trip?)
The humidity is so draining! I love the baby giraffe picture. Did you draw that?
ReplyDeleteGood luck figuring out the tailbone.
Good to know you´re still on the road. I am used to run after work and right before going to bed, I like it. Good luck for the forthcoming hot and humid running season.
ReplyDeleteDon't be too hard on yourself about sleeping in... It was just as icky in the morning! The humidity this week is ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteNo clue about the tailbone pain. Hope you feel better soon!
I feel badly that the baby giraffe had rhinoplasty, but maybe it wass for medical reasons. Maybe you have a pinched nerve that's the pain in your a$$.
ReplyDeleteMmm…seems like someone will have to start hearing the alarm in the morning… Training in the heat sucks but it is still good training. Sorry, I’m no tailbone specialist. I hope to have some updates on the flag’s journey soon.
ReplyDeleteI thought of you yesterday as I "attempted" some speed work!
ReplyDeleteI did 50yd dashes "as fast as I could" for 10 rounds on the track. My fastest was 12 seconds. I'm sure that's snail pace, but for a 49 year old who used to smoke tons and now has a floppy heart valve....I'll take it!
Cute Giraffe :) No clue on the tailbone! Hope it stops hurting soon.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you rub it in a little more?!?! You know what?!??!? My rainy crappy weather is just great. Great I tell you! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope your butt feels better.
a big solid bowel movement?
ReplyDeletethat's all i've got!
:-D
Heat/humidity are no fun - legit excuses! So stop sleeping through the alarm. :)
ReplyDelete"the marlene" awaits. mua-ha-ha!
3 alarms?? u slept through 3 alarms??
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me of the mini giraffe on those commercials...for something...what is it? Capital one???
ReplyDeleteNice runs! I thought your were going to post about the commercial with the russian body builders and the baby giraffe on the treadmill.
ReplyDeleteUm-the temperature and wind is ALWAYS to be blamed for a funk. I also blame my husband because well....he just gets blamed for everything!
ReplyDeleteTailbone thing weird. The beginning of March I had a really similar thing. I didn't do ANYTHING but my tailbone was almost throbbing when I would skate or run (I could still run but could totally feel it). Lasted about a week and went away. Always wondered what it was?
AND-you do NOT have a big butt! Nice work with the hot humid runs-blech!
Heat - I know what you mean! Already seen a couple of days bumping into the 90s here in GA. I struggle adjusting to it, but know it's only for a few weeks and I will be adjusted.
ReplyDeleteI had similar tailbone issues a few weeks ago. I attributed it to working at the dining room table late into the night. It went away when I started working from the couch again. Of course, my productivity went down because Wizards of Waverly place is always one when I'm sitting on the couch.
ReplyDeleteIn short, you're working too hard and you should start watching Wizards of Waverly Place.
I no! I love running in the heat... melting myself on the road! How are you going to run in Brazil? I loved the giraffe :)
ReplyDeleteSo true about the power of the mind! What is UP with that?!
ReplyDeleteI hope your tailbone feels better, what a random place for a mystery pain.
I didn't understand your picture at first, then I was like ohhhh, awkward like a baby giraffe! Or super cute and smiley like a baby giraffe?
ReplyDeleteOMG Lindsay!!! You just crack me up:) You comment made me laugh! I know I have been a terrible blogger...life has been a little stressful for me. I promise there will be a race report and I will be back to blogging:) Take care! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how anyone can run in heat like that. Blech!
ReplyDeleteSorry no clue on the tail bone...unless you fell down some stairs while sleepwalking...
To answer your question from the other day: I am not going to do the Swamp Rabbit race. 5K's hurt too much! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe ride I took the pictures on, was somewhere in the Duncan/Moore area and I was riding the back roads between hwy 290 and 101. It's just the most convenient for me after work, so I won't waste too much time in the car and it's actually pretty good riding grounds.
Once Mitchell is over, we should definitely get out for a ride and I can show you some of these road, if you don't know them already!
