boston and other things

[brief summary: a wedding, boston, old grapes, horses]

it's been a very busy two weeks with a good bit of traveling up and down the east coast. i logged a whopping 10.6 miles one week and 22.75 the next. superb way to prep for a marathon (in less than one month, ugh i am so disgusted with myself).

i went to a friend's wedding in a (very) small town near augusta, ga.

i went to boston to see friends and spectate the marathon

i realized i was pretty nerdy for flying up to watch a marathon. these things are expensive enough to run, and now i'm traveling just to spectate?

no offense if your name was not on the sign, i was having
trouble remembering all you amazing runners!
(and didn't write small enough)

it was a busy day of spectating around mile 22-23 and the finish. i bumped in to karyn post-race and got to chat with her a little as we wandered to find a t stop.

eventually we made it back to terri's apartment and there were still runners on the course (5:30pm and later)! i can't imagine being out there and watching the water stations being dismantled as you are trying to finish your race. there was one volunteer still cheering them on, serious dedication there. i'll admit, i was too tired and selfish to continue cheering.

flying home tuesday afternoon, i ran into meg at the airport! always good to see her - just reading her blog brightens my day. (btw meg, jill and i discussed things and decided we are going to come visit and hang out with you ok?) :)

i was off work friday so i played housekeeping ninja and went to my newlywed friend's house to tidy up a little before they returned from their honeymoon. it wasn't super messy, just needed general tidying after the pre-wedding rush, but i did find 3.5-month-old grapes in the fridge.

yum

saturday we went to the steeplechase and out on the lake, and now i look like rudolph.

so that's what i've been up to with a little running mixed in.

  1. At least you are having fun and seeing friends -- that is important. Not good to be disguisted in yourself though. I've been there too many times (I think even yesterday!). Try to look on the upside -- you did run, and you can run today or tomorrow. Good luck!

    ps. love the wedding photo!

  2. To me, running a slow marathon (or a slow race of any distance) is harder than running fast and takes more dedication because you're out there so much longer and on your feet so much longer than someone who runs faster. I know people who've walked 10Ks or halfs, I can't even imagine walking for an hour and a half for a 10K or almost four hours for a half. And yeah, it's gotta stink if you're still running and they're already taking down the water stations, etc, but hey, those people were running a marathon and that's what counts :).

Oh... a phone booth... haven't seen one of those in awhile!

Sweet of you to be a housekeeping ninja! I need to make sure my friends have keys to my house whenever I go out of town.

  4. You are a super-friend. Traveling to cheer, attend wedding, cleaning houses.....go ou!

So, you told us how many miles of running and we can add up the miles of traveling but how many M&Ms were consumed over said two weeks.

  6. For a small town wedding that sure is a big wedding party!

That Rudolph nose serves you right for enjoying the sun. Maybe next time you will think of us cold and rainy midwesterns and stop enjoying it so much. :)

  11. You've been busy girl!
Boston - I thought one had to be fast to get into this race (unless a celebrity). I agree with the previous comment that being on the course longer is more demanding and harder.
Augusta - We could have gone for a run! FATS course is just around the corner (Terri's Oct race).

  17. Boston is totally worth the trip to spectate! I think I want to go next year whether I qualify/get in or not. Then again it might be too depressing to watch if I can't run...

You're a peach for doing a little tidying at the newlyweds' house! Wanna do mine next? I'm too busy running.
