end of the streak

i'm feeling pretty good and it's not because of the drugs. i took pain meds every 4 hours on thursday (day of surgery) as prescribed and drew that out to 6-7 hours thursday night/friday morning. i haven't had anything but a couple ibuprofens since 9am friday morning, and thankfully my mouth just isn't hurting.

i was nauseous all day friday - i assumed from lack of drinking/eating much. i know, i should have been better about it but jello and pudding are only so appealing. anyway as we were driving through the mountains of north carolina on friday i became a bit more nauseated and told mario andretti (aka j) to pull over. i hurled on the side of the interstate, let me add that to my portfolio. it was just as unpleasant as i remember it being 15 or so years ago. at least i hadn't eaten anything so it was just white and chunk-free.

hungry? yum.

anyway, this morning i went on a one mile walk for an attempt at some exercise. it took foreverrrr. walking is overrated, at least when you are running you get to where you're going a lot sooner. while my mouth isn't hurting, i didn't want to try running yet for fear of causing a dry socket. that mile is definitely being calculated into my weekly totals because they are pathetic this week. i'm hoping/aiming to try a short run tomorrow.

the tooth fairy (aka myself) didn't let me down, and i tried out my new toy on my big mile walk. i still have to get used to it and figure a few more things out. the bezel likes to acknowledge touches from any object other than my finger, which is kind of annoying. i opted for the 405 w/ hrm 'cause the cx didn't seem to be that much of an upgrade and i thought the 310 would swallow my small wrists. hopefully it won't tell me i'm slow like my nike+ did.

thanks for all well-wishes and ring compliments! j's head is growing bigger with each comment on the ring and my teeth seem to be listening and holding back the pain. now if they can just keep it up and refrain from dry-socketing i'll be good to go.

  1. glad you could get out for a walk today at least! i'm with you on walking being overrated - running is so much more...purposeful and exciting. but you'll get there :) i hope the recovery continues to go well and that you're able to eat some real food soon. also, nice garmin! i need to get me one of those, i think. it's pretty.

  2. I'm jealous of that new toy. Maybe I need to get my wisdom teeth out. D'oh, they are already gone. At least you didn't have to clean your own hurl. Take it easy.

  3. Does running cause dry sockets? Maybe that's how I screwed myself over. Ha.

  4. Hey, that cool new toy works better on pain than any percocet. Hope you feel better soon!

  5. Glad to hear all is well, I remember eating a lot of cottage cheese and pudding for weeks!
Please boost my ego and tell me my running total for this week of 13 miles was higher than yours!!!!!
Take care and I know you'll be pounding the asphalt asap!!!

  6. How sad... the end of the no-puke streak. But that sucks... I had to puke on the side of the road shortly after my husband and I got married. I projectile vomited out the door the second he pulled over and I got it open.

I hope you like the 405. I thought I would get that last December for exactly the same concern with small wrists, but then I worked the Garmin booth at an expo and got to try on the 405. I couldn't latch it down small enough to fit my wrist due to the rigid sides next to the watch face. So I actually found that the 305 worked better on my dinky little wrists!

Anyway, I hope you continue to get feeling better. Take care!

  7. Welcome back to the world of those who puke. We've missed you....LOL. Leave it to you to go for a one mile walk, but I'd be motivated by a new Garmin too. I have the 305, and love it. I'm sure the 405 will kick ass for you. I'm guessing all your running will quickly cause it to overload and beg for mercy. Feel better soon, and I can't wait until you start running again so I can call you anal again! Oh, and you're right. Walking is too slow and takes too long. Long live running...

  8. A Garmie! I only use about 25% of the features, but I love it. So is that an engagment ring? Were you already engaged? Just want to make sure I gush appropriately. :o)

  9. I've had the Garmin for over 3 years, yet I am still using only a couple of the features. Works for me! hope you like the 405. Mostly, hope you can go running soon! I bet you'll feel so strong after the rest! Ana-Maria

  10. Wow, you are a quick healer...my kids too weeks to get over wisdom teeth issues! I think your tooth fairy reward was a great incentive to heal up.

Yes, let's keep running, not walking! So much more efficient.
    Keep getting better!

  11. Linds, All good streaks must come to a end...I can't believe that streak didn't end in college, I probably upchucked enough for the both of us those 6 years (yes I have a masters, not just a professional college career!). Hope you'll be back at it (running) soon! Happy Weekend :)

  12. Ugh..sorry about the whole wisdom teeth thing... Good to hear you're recovering quickly though!
And let me tell you about the wonders of having a Garmin- it always pushes me to run farthur, just to make another .5 mile! Now, that is a miracle gadget, my friend :) Enjoy!

  14. I had a student this past summer who ended up getting dry sockets. Those things are bad news! I hope you manage to keep them at bay. Yay 405! I've had the same experience with the bezel and honestly, I wish there were some way to turn the whole thing off (when you're traveling, for instance). Even though you can lock the bezel, after I've been on the bus for a few hours I take it out to find that the bezel has unlocked itself and somehow the battery is completely drained. Oh well, the rest of it is awesome.

  15. Love your new toy ;)

Hope this week the recovery continues to go well!

  16. I agree that walking can be annoying, but it's better than nothing. I hate wisdom teeth, it's good that yours are gone and you'll never have to deal with it again.

  17. I think I totally forgot to tell you last time that I loved that pict of your beautiful ring. It was shining out from the dark like the sun.
Also congrats on your Garmin. My husband surprised me with one a few years ago when it was bigger and bulkier. That one looks small and svelt. Also, mine stopped picking up the satellite last year. Have fun with it.

  18. I really enjoy walking, but it just doesn't make me feel as good as running. If only!

  19. Dunno what "dry socket" is, but it sounds about as appealing as your vomit.

Your present from the tooth fairy is AWESOME!!!

  20. Yeah, why walk when you can run? I always hated walking home after running in high school, even though it was only 2 miles.. Good luck on your run, love the new gear by the way!

  21. Yes, walking bites! I have the 305 w/hrm and love it! It is rather large, but trust me, you get used to it! My poor Nike+ sits all by its lonesome on the table now.

  22. Dry sockets are not fun. I had them when I had my wisom teeth out. The cloth they stick in them does help, but tastes so gross. Hope you heal fast.

  23. ugh! sorry I missed all the excitement. It sounds like you are doing well though and being smart! Can't wait to hear how the new toy works out!

impressive no puke streak. I had been doing well with mine too until that last stomach bug, but I had nothing on your 15 years!

  24. Yuck on the hurl! At least my donuts would taste good coming back up.

Congrats on the 405! That should keep you busy for a while. I dare you to learn eveything it can do. I've had my 305 for a year plus now and am still finding out what it can do for me. And I'm a geeknerd!

  25. Nice new toy! I borrowed a friend's 405 for a run and the bezel did not cooperate for me at all. Most people don't seem to have issues, so hopefully you'll be able to figure it out with a little more practice.

Continued recovery to you! Good to hear no pain! YAY!

  26. Hope you continue to heal well!

You definitely DON'T want a dry socket. A friend had that and it sucked. Big time.

  27. sounds like you're starting to feel a bit better, great news! Hurling at the side of the interstate is better than in the car, LOL

  28. Richie has the same problem with his 405. Water seems to activate the touch sensitive areas, so every time it rains or we run through a sprinkler, his 405 goes crazy while my 305 keeps on chugging. I believe the 405 also causes diarrhea but these claims are unproven.

  29. I hope you are healing up well! I was pretty worried about the dry socket thing too after mine. Oh well, your rest days are totally justified!

And yes, the bling from J is stunning!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yay for your new toy! My man has the 405, and I must be mentally challenged or something . . . because I CANNOT work that thing for the life of me. I'll keep my buttons, thank you very much!

Also, I walked a 5K in the Bronx Zoo a ways back, and it seemed SOOOOOO long. Good lord! I am now convinced that walking a 5K is actually more difficult than running one all out!

    ReplyDelete
  31. you can change the sensitivity level on the 405, and also when you are running you may want to get into the habit of "locking" the bezel, so that if you bump up against something it won't screw things up. you can still start and stop it, even when the screen is locked. let me know if you have any questions about how to set yours up. i love mine.

would the tooth fairy you know like to travel up to boston to reward me for some of the tooth crap i went through this summer?!
