redemption

week in review (8/03 - 8/09):
total miles: 61.50
time spent running: ~ 8 hours 38 minutes
avg hr: 156.50
avg pace: 8:33/mile (avg temp: 81*)
off days: 0

another week hanging out in the 60's. i would have liked a few more miles but i was having a hard time logging miles early in the week. my motivation (to run period) picked up at the end of the week for a strong finish. this coming week is going to be a major cutback week due to what will hopefully (am i really saying that?) finally be my wisdom teeth appointment. i've been pushing my legs for 2+ weeks without a day off because i'll be taking more than enough days off around my teeth. i've also logged four 60+ weeks in a row so it's time for a break anyway. i'm hoping to try a few miles sunday, but i am definitely not going to push it; if i have to take 4 days off then so be it.

today's long run/quality workout was a decent redemption from last week's. i got in 20 miles with 11 of them at/around "goal marathon pace" (which hasn't quite been set in stone yet). i took three vanilla bean flavored gu's (delicious!) that i recently won from rick at marathon man. he's currently training for the nyc marathon too and raising money for autism speaks.

my stomach muscles cramped a little and caused me to take a few breaks in the last few miles 'cause i couldn't stand up straight or run without them hurting. i only had to take two pitstops though so things are clearing up on that end. hopefully anyway, i'm still on the lovely clindamycin for another two days. i sure hope this issue can be blamed on the meds - i don't think i will run well in nyc if it's still around...

sunday (8/9) am run: 20 miles, 2:40:47 (avg pace 8:02), avg hr (166)
[average of "goal mp" miles 7:28]

  1. Wow, lady, nice job on the 20 miler - 8 minute miles? Awesome!! when we meet in February, can we make a trade so I can get some of your speed? Unfortunately, I have nothing good to offer you, other than the gift of gab. :-)

glad to hear the bathroom issues are starting to clear up. :-)

  2. I'm in awe of you. 20 miles and at eight minute a mile pace, with only three energy gels? So, just out of curiosity, what do you like to eat before and after when you plan a long run like that?
Well, good job of you. My longest planned run before this half marathon is going to be 12 and probably not that fast. Maybe next year right? :)

  3. Wow, the pace is amazing! Very nicely done! Taking 4 days off is not going to make any difference, in fact, it might make you even faster! Again, v nice job! Hurray for redemption! Ana-Maria

  4. Incredible pace girl and you kept it up for 20 miles, I'm in awe! Seems like you've recovered from your "issues" from you last post, way to go! Enjoy those 4 days off and don't worry!

  5. Yeah, your legs need a break. I hope you get your tooth appointment 'cause your body is obviously not adjusting to the clindamycin very well. Great job on your 20 miler!

  7. FOUR 60+ mile weeks - good heavens!! I don't think taking 4 days off would make a dent in that stockpile of HARDCORE :)

  11. We must be running twins and not just because of the, ahem, stomach issues. I averaged exactly the same pace you did on my last MGP run. You look like you are ready to run a sub 3:20 or even sub 3:15 on your next marathon.

  12. Great week Linds. I am sure you'll be fine after you get off the antibiotics. I love Gu's myself! The strawberry banana is delish too.

  13. Nice redemption! That is one awesome 20-miler. Enjoy some rest this week. You've earned it!

  14. To be able to still get that mileage in while on antibiotics is awesome. My body goes to shut down mode when on 'em. I absolutely hate them and completely question the docs when they try to put me on 'em.
Best of luck with the teeth this week. Been there, will keep fingers crossed for a fast and speedy procedure and recovery!

  15. That's prety smokin' for a 20 miler. I'm pretty happy to just finish.

And yeah - I think my soreness *is* related to taking the week off. It's kind of like I'm having DOMS after any longish run - just kind of like I'm doing too much too quickly. I'm going to slow things down this week and do some more at recovery pace instead of GA and race pace. I'll put in one quality session this week and see if I can get things bck on track.

  18. You are amazing... I can't imagine pacing 8 minute miles on a 20 miler. Well, I can imagine... but it's certainly not reality! :-)

I hope the pit stop issue is resolved once the antibiotics have run their course!

  20. Woohoo! Nice job on the 20-miler. You are inspiring me to consider shooting for a marathon PR next year. I'd be happy with just a 3:20-3:25, though.

  24. Great job Lindsay! Glad you like the Vanilla Bean GU Gel...and thanks for the plug! Good luck with the teeth issues. Maybe you'll run even faster without them! Knowing you, you won't miss many days of running afterward.

  25. Impressive stats. Doesn't it feel good when you add everything up and think "Wow, I ran for over 8 hours this week."?

  28. Nice job on the running! That is a lot of hours you are logging for sure. Glad you got a little redemption and that the antibiotic issue is clearing up...

I haven't tried vanilla bean Gu. I'll have to give it a try sometime.

Good luck with the wisdom teeth!!!!

  29. Glad to hear the dental work will be out of the way and you'll be able to get off the medication. Enjoy a little time off!

Your mileage is so impressive to me! Did you just build up gradually? Did you add a lot of easy mileage, or increase mileage in all types of runs?

I'll give the vanilla bean gu's a try. I made my first homemade gel the other day and liked it much better than the commercial ones, but in a pinch, I'll grab a vanilla!

  30. btw Lindsay, I added you to my blogroll! I'm shifting just a tad of the focus from cooking to running.
