planned mileage |
actual mileage |
since i haven't been hitting my target mileage, i am adjusting the remaining 12 weeks of training and admitting to myself that it won't get up as high as originally planned (now mid-50's vs. mid-60's).
i really don't know what the big deal is. all day at work i think about going for a run afterward, but once i get home i am no longer motivated. if i could just run at 5am like i used to... the alarm and i have not been getting along for quite some time now (cough, 2 years, cough).
sunday (2/20) afternoon run: 8.05 miles, 1:16:04 (avg pace 9:26), 56*
no motivation today either. josh talked me into driving somewhere and running there for a change of pace (usually i just run from the front door). i finally peeled myself off the couch around 2pm and drove over to an old 4-mile loop of mine. my body still felt sleepy, like it does when you first wake up in the morning, and my hamstrings were sore from lifting friday (hello deadlifts). i trotted along, slowly, not really enjoying myself. i knew i was just going to take this week easy to make sure i fully recovered from the plague but still, it'd be nice to feel more fluid.
so... who's going to call/text me at 5am and drag my behind out of bed?
seeing as that's 1 am my time, i won't volunteer myself for the 5am wakeup text. BUT. I SUPPORT 5 AM. i bet if you just DO IT, just once, maybe you'll remember why you used to like running at that time of day? ugh, motivational jags are teh pitz. :(
ReplyDeleteps, what are your thoughts on peanut butter M&M's? I usually just go for the peanut or dark chocolate variety, but I got some peanut butter ones for valentine's day and they were off the hook.
Eh, I can't get up either so don't listen to me. I will only demotivate you. I am queen of snuggling back under the blankie!
ReplyDeleteOh Lindsay, sorry training is not going as well as you'd like. I think forcing yourself onto a schedule and sticking with it for a couple of weeks is going to make this new routine an actual habit, and then you won't even need to think about it. I think it is hard to get back to regular running after having dealt with health issues and after having your running routine interrupted. How about some lunch runs? Do you have the flexibility to maybe take a longer lunch and stay a little extra or start earlier? I am not one who can run at 5am, so I completely understand how this might be hard. I am lucky that I can start work at 6:30am and be done around 2-3, so when I run in the afternoon most days it is not dark yet.
ReplyDeleteKeep at it and you will find your rhythm.
Hmmmm.... You've been sick during marathon training, so don't be too hard on yourself.
ReplyDeleteSend me your phone number. I'm up at 5:00AM to swim Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Tuesdays and Thursdays I sleep in until around 6:00 so you can't count on me on those days :)
ReplyDeleteI'd be happy to send you a sarcastic 5AM text message to get your butt out of bed and out on a run :)
Your mileage looks pretty dang good to me : ) I'm lucky if I can put in 35 miles (that's a great week). I agree with the other comment -- you've been sick, so I wouldn't be that hard on yourself. And stick to the dark chocolate m&m's, I hear it's supposed to be good for the heart : )
ReplyDeleteI have good days and bad days with the sugar. Today is a good day. Problem is 2 of my boys have valentines candy bags from school just SITTING around.
Good luck this upcoming week with your running!
Raising my hand right here, lady! Just not tomorrow, I have to work and ran 9 today, so I'm a bit tired and will sleep until 7 tomorrow!!
ReplyDeleteBut Tuesday morning, keep that phone turned on lady. I will have no problems calling you at that early hour.
Hey, I'm always thinking about you.
Which marathon is this next one? Have I missed an earlier post about it?
I'd like some M+Ms right now! The dark chocolate ones of course because they are healthier!
ReplyDeleteill do it :)
ReplyDeleteWell, if nothing else, the zero mileage days make your log look prettier with all the yellow. It's winter, cut yourself some slack. And cut out the m+ms.
ReplyDeleteYou still have three months and the days will be getting longer....
ReplyDeleteI think you'll get your head back in the game soon. Sometimes all you need is a little of that painful reflection.
ReplyDeleteI'd gladly send ya a text get out of bed! ha!
ReplyDeleteI could totally have written so much of this post, I feel the exact same way. I love running in the morning but never manage to wake up and do it lately, and I can spend the day dreaming of being out running and when I actually get a chance to go I feel like I'm dragging myself tooth and nail. Where does that come from?!
ReplyDeleteWe should try to think of some virtual way of running "together" in the morning. Of course now I've said that and I'm like...oh no, do I really want someone holding me accountable?!
There is some thing to be said for getting your workout done in the AM. If I ever try to put it off until after work I am always too tired, too hungry, too disinterested... the downside to the morning is, well, the morning is sooooo early.
ReplyDeleteYour mileage doesn't look that bad at all. I must admit if it wasn't for the 5AM thing I don't know how much I would run.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could get out of bed! I'm little help, LOL. I go through these times where I can't get myself motivated, and they eventually pass. It does SUCK while it's going on though, so I totally feel your pain.
ReplyDeleteI would but that would be 2am here and that's NOT going to happen ;) ugg I fel you, this last week or two have been rough in the mornings, I was doing so good!
ReplyDelete"Motivation isn't flowing as freely as M&Ms"—LOVE that! This post makes me think of something a successful and prolific writer said about his writing habits: "I write when I'm inspired, and I make sure I feel inspired at 9 a.m. each morning." Good for you for hauling your butt out there, whether the motivation's flowing or not!
ReplyDeleteNot me. The alarm clock and I have not been on speaking terms either. We'll see how my first ever 15K goes next week. At least it will be a PR.
ReplyDeleteWhen I lived in Fl I had NO prb getting up to run at 5:30 because I had people there. Now.. well I'm alone and it takes much more effort and I don't have to beat the heat so no 5:30 wake up. I think your miles look great!! This coming week I'm going to hit 44.. gulp.
ReplyDeleteI've been having some disagreements with morning runs ever since winter got here. I just can't seem to drag my butt out of my warm bed in the cold weather. Come on spring and summer. I need to get some serious training on!
ReplyDeleteUmmm, remember the days when we used to compare mileage and you used to kick my a$$ every week for a whole year straight? Ummm...yeah, we need to get back to that =)
ReplyDeleteCan we do 6am instead of 5am though...it still seems kind of early?
Spring is just around the corner...we'll get up at 5am when daylight savings rolls back into town =)
There's nothing wrong with 0 mileage days lindsay. We can't get stronger if there's no recovery, right?
ReplyDeleteNo worries - just look at my "training"! ;)
ReplyDeleteI could text you at 5 am California time but I wouldn't get up and do that. I'd fall asleep. But then it would be already 12 in the afternoon and defeat the purpose. If you need a text from me at 8 am in california I am your girl.
ReplyDeleteBAHAHa.
you go get em girl you can do it!
Looks like we are on the same training plan- I'm running well, but moving my mileage up at like nothing per day!
