oh boy here i go sending the wrong impressions again. guess my sarcasm didn't translate very well, so let me define a few things from my previous post:
"sponsorship" - (n). an offer from a co-worker to pay for my travels to boston. he seemed serious but it's weird to me and i don't really get why he'd pay. i asked what i would have to do for this sponsorship and he said "just run, i won't make you wear a shirt with the company logo on it or anything". we'll see if he ever brings it up again; i'm not going to ask.
"coach" - (n). another co-worker, drunk at the time (after all this was at a post-work party), who overheard the boston conversation and decided to lecture me on the five brownies i may or may not have eaten earlier that day (remember they were bite-sized, it wasn't that bad). he told me i need to run more and that he's going to start making me train in the warehouse - i guess i'll do some world's strongest man type stuff and toss oil barrels, flip tires, etc. (again, sarcasm)
sorry it's not quite as exciting as you hoped!
this week is off to a much better start compared to the last and yes, i am still m&m free (9 days). knowing i probably won't be able to run thursday, i switched things up in hopes of staying strong and enforcing both quality days this week. i got in 9.25 miles with 6 threshold on monday and have some lovely 800's on tap for wednesday.
i've been having what i assume is tinnitus for a little over a week now (ringing/roaring in the ear). at first it was in both ears but now it seems to only be in my left ear. it's kind of like having your own personal t-pain adapter, everything is auto-tuned.
many of us are shivering and buried in snow right now, so why not warm up with thoughts of labor day weekend in the fun and sun? register for the va beach rnr half marathon by 2/23/10 and save $10 on registration with the code "TAKETEN". you'll also receive a commemorative 10th anniversary tee for free.

LOVE that commercial :)
ReplyDeleteI adore this comment "5 brownies that I may or may not have eaten" haha you sound like me! I would love to do the VA beach half, I will have to see if I can train myself well enough for such things!
ReplyDeleteTake care, tell the winter weather to take a hike!
i was curious if there was sarcasm with that last post or not :)
ReplyDeleteWoooooow having a "sponsor" could be very cool. Look at you... the Kenyan's will be chasing you soon Lindsay!
ReplyDeleteNine days of no M&M's! Impressive!
ReplyDeleteGood job.......wish I could say the same for the dt dew :(
I'm so weak, but it's time to grab the boot straps and get serious.
This I type while I drink my morning dt dew! BUT, I am now heading out to shovel 12" of snow off the driveway, so that's my excuse!!
Have you ran the VA Beach RnR? Is it hard? Give me the dets... and I will seriously think about it.
ReplyDeleteHmm, I think it'd be better if he wanted you to wear a shirt for the race. That way you'd at least better understand the motives. Maybe he just as freq flyer miles and hotel points that would go to waste? Before my 50 states quest, my husband just gave way miles & points to others or let them expire.
ReplyDeleteOdd that a co-worker would offer to pay for your travels. I wouldn't know how to react if someone I worked with did the same.
ReplyDeleteThe beach sounds sooo good right about now!
ReplyDeleteWay to go with the (no) M&M's streak! So what if you may or may not be compensating with bite-sized brownies. ;)
Listening to the world in auto-tune? Yikes...
ReplyDeleteYour "coach" and "sponsor" sound like great finds, you are in a very privileged position. (more sarcasm!)
First of all I have to say that commercial is annoying. Just my opinion.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, I think you need to show your "coach" some real workouts. I bet he couldn't get through a tenth of what you do.
Third, hmm, that "sponsor" offer seems weird. I'd steer clear, but again, that's just me.
That's funny...I didn't quite pick up on the sarcasm in the last post. That "sponsor" does sound a bit enticing (I mean shady). And the "coach" sounds lovely (I mean rude).
ReplyDelete9 days without m&m's? That's just nuts!
you crack me up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteniiiiiiiiiiice on the sponsor. is that considered friends with benefits??? :)
also, YAY BOSTON. lol.
and, lastly, i am soooooooooo tempted to do something like VA rnr!!!! it's not that far from me and there are always great flight deals,... need to look at the dates etc. are you def running it? thanks for the discount info!
That commercial was hilarious.
ReplyDeleteThe sponsorship thing is intersting. Is it just a co-worker or someone who wants to use company money to pay for your trip? A lot of poeple will ask family members and friends for example to give them money to go and work on the mission field or go to a beauty pageant (I did this when I was a kid)...so maybe that's how he's looking at it. a trip somewhere far to race wouldn't be out of the realm of needing "sponsorship." However, I would be somewhat leary, my husband would especially, if it's a single man wanting to send me on a trip. That would feel odd.
Wow, you just talking about M&Ms makes me imagine them. Such strong will you have.
Oh, thanks for your comment, and I was only outside for several minutes for those pictures. I liked the brick background and outside lighting is always better. It was only 30 degrees.
I love the sarcasm :-)Way to go on the M&M free for 9 days!
ReplyDeleteThat is really odd about your coworker offering to pay your way. I wonder how he wants you to return the favor?! Im impressed with your m&m self control!! But seriously, you run so much, you deserve to indulge once in awhile!
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to the good old days when you used to be able to do nice things for people without being suspect of ulterial motives... you know, like buying the attractive girl sitting across from you at the bar a drink or sending a co-worker on an all expense trip to Boston, or give the cute sorority girls a ride home from the bar in your windowless van?
ReplyDeleteI am doing the Shamrock in Va Beach in March- :)
ReplyDeleteI would so love a beach right now as I look out my window at MORE snow!
I can smiff sarcasm out of just abotu anything. Ha!
ReplyDeleteI assumed you were being sarcastic when you brought up coworkers. Hehe.
ReplyDeleteI guess I should stop order on that congratulatory parade I was massing in your honor of being sponsered. Geesh...
ReplyDeleteYeah... I'd probably rather pay my own way! And if the brownies are small enough they definitely don't count.
ReplyDeleteHey, sponsor or no sponsor, congrats on running Boston! I happen to love sarcasm, so keep it up (ha, that wasn't being sarcastic either!)
ReplyDeleteAlso, that's awesome that you have relatives on Jersey Shore...I have to say that show is my guilty pleasure (along with Sour Patch Kids).
I was just eating dark chocolate covered ginger from TJ's when I read about your 9 M&M free days. Wow! I agree with Katie, that is nuts. Glad running is on track. Did we have the same quality workouts this week or what - 6X800 and 6tempo at 1/2m pace!
ReplyDeleteOooohh...I hope the tinnitus goes away!
ReplyDeleteThat was a kind of creepy sponsorship offer if you ask me. How's the M & M abstinence going?
ReplyDeleteAGAIN I'm missing your blog posts. I don't know why...I just wanted to say that it's 4:30 a.m. and my creative brain cells haven't kicked into gear yet due to me not finishing my two large cups of coffee yet. So I will cop out and just say "Hi Lindsay, you are still my running idol." :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm not a Dr. but the withdrawl from m&m's might have something to do with the ear noise?:) Funny commercial!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for that clarification Lindsay on the definitions. Tinnitus. A long time ago, I was diagnosed with Meiner's Disease. Ear imbalance disorder, with which tinnitus became a regular part of my life. Since I started running and getting into shape, it hasn't bothered me much. I still hear the ringing demons sometimes though. There are a few things that I do to make it better though. Tolerable I guess would be the better word. Hope that clears up for you soon.
ReplyDeleteHey don't look a gift horse in the mouth and don't pout M&Ms in yours!
ReplyDeleteNot to be glib but it sounds like literally you can take the money and run!
just catching up a bit, congrats on 9 days! That's will-power!!! I had ringing in the ears today, but it was the drill in the dentists office :( Cool about the "sponsor"!!
ReplyDeleteI love sarcasm! I still think you should contact M&M's about a sponsonship opportunity. You could be all decked out like the M&M's Nascar car!
ReplyDeleteI may or may not have had a few peanut butter M&M's for breakfast this morning!
Have a good weekend!
I step away from the blogs for a few day sand you give up M&Ms. What the???
ReplyDeleteOh, Lindsay, I love your sense of humor, it always cracks me up. Hey, do I get a "name" since I want you to stay with me in April??! :-)
ReplyDeleteActually I thought it was weird how you had a sponsor and coach, but didn't think much else of it. Sarcasm is definitely hard to tell online. Oh well, you got another post out of it!
ReplyDeleteI think that commercial was by far the best one of the lot. Loved it!!
Hi Lindsay, congrats on your "Sponsor" and your "coach" and being sarcastic. I love it!!! I think I need to rethink my total sugar depletion diet and break it down to smaller steps like your M&M's. I was able to go sugar-free with my last marathon but on my Boston plan, I not feeling the sans sugar love. Thanks for your blog!!
