january 2010

looking back, time has flown! i can't believe we are a full month into 2010 already. if you asked me on any given day in january i'm sure i would've whined about how much longer i have to be in kentucky. heck, i am pretty sure i will still whine if you ask me in february :) (i miss home, what can i say).

week in review (1/25 - 1/31):
total miles: 50.85 (avg temp 27* f)
time spent running: ~ 7 hours 25 minutes
avg hr: 163.50
avg pace: 8:44/mile
off days: 2

again with the two days off... but i managed to (finally) get in 50 miles so i'm down with that. i even did abs three times! the workouts didn't quite go as planned, my 5-mile tempo run was cut down to 2 and thursday-saturday was just a jumble, but it was an ok week i guess. after slogging thru the snow on saturday, i got in a 17 mile long run on sunday in south carolina (in shorts!).

i ended up buying a flight home since the weekend snowstorm purposely dumped snow specifically on my route home (all the white and purple). most of the drive was probably fine... but the mountains of north carolina got 11+ inches and they don't keep as big of an inventory in snow-removal-equipment down south. i didn't want to get stuck (again) so i took the plunge and flew out saturday after my snowy run. apparently i look like the taliban because i was patted down on both legs of the trip.

january 2010
total mileage: 180.05
time spent running: 26:09:26
avg pace: 8:42/mile
days off: 7
avg resting hr: not measured
avg max hr: 180.28

i only got in two long runs for the month - 15.75 and 17.10. the other two weekends were a little crazy with my typical traveling and i was a little lazy, but i still got in 10-12 miles on those weekend "long" runs (so not totally a bum). i also ate entirely too m&m's and if i'm gonna make any progress in losing my 10-15 lbs for the year i need to have a little more discipline. step 1: no m&m's in february. thank god this is a short month!

  2. OMG, did you just say NO M&Ms?! Are you really going to give up those cute Valentine's Day colored M&Ms? Because if so, I am super impressed! And by the way, great job this month. I am always very impressed with anyone who manages to keep up regular-ish training during the dark winter months. You rock! :)

  5. The good: You continue to run well, and got to run wearing shorts. The bad: No M+M's. and the ugly: You not eating M+M's for a month! I don't believe you will last the month. Your strength is in your running, but your weakness is the tasty M+M's. Mmmmmm...M+M's...

  14. No M&Ms at all in February? Seriously? You're a really dedicated woman to give up M&Ms for a whole month in the name of training!

  20. Way to Go Lindsay. Shorts in SC. You suck. JK. I wish I could say the same. But I will be heading down to the coast of NC in 2 weeks. WhoooHooo. No M&ms? What about once a week? lol. I think that quitting that cold turkey will mess you up. May Feb bring you much added success.

  25. no m&ms? maybe you could stick with the dark chocolate variety, since doesn't dark chocolate have antioxidants or something? it's KINDA healthy, right? haha

nice job on january! you put up some great mileage even with only a couple "real" long runs. i'm also really jealous of your long run in shorts, just fyi.

  26. nice job on jan girlie and yay for a good long run! i hope you get out of KY SOOOOON!

  27. Great month!!!

Good luck w/the m&ms. DON'T BUY THEM!!! That's been my way to not eat jellybeans.

  28. How about 1 pack of M&M's a week? You can even make that a small pack. Honestly, don't give up something that you love so much. I am a chocoholic, and life without my 2/month Trader Joe's Belgian Chocolate (4lbs/each) would be so sad that I can't even think about it. You can still lose weight (if that is what you want) if you eat a few M&Ms. Awesome running, by the way!

  29. My hubby often gets the royal TSA treatment if he buys tix last minute. Still, I'd take that hassle over getting stuck in snow any day.

Nice numbers for January, exc. for that avg temp -- BRRR!!!

  30. I have yet to break the 50 mpw barrier yet, but hopefully will soon once I get started on training for the full.

So are you saying if there were 2 more days in this month, you would have not been able to hold out any longer and have some m&ms? LOL

  31. Great mileage! Just so we are clear, do you love all M&M's or do you like a particular kind? I LOVE them all, but am partial to the peanut butter ones! I have a divided dish on my kitchen counter where I keep plain, peanut, and peanut butter M&M's year round!
