place your bets!

i'm off to boston to hang out with friends and run a few miles (hopefully). let's play guess my time! winner may or may not receive a prize as it seems to take me about a month to finally put something in the mail (just ask aron or diana). but it'll be fun even if i don't ever get around to mailing something right?

a brief summary of my marathoning history, to assist you in making educated estimations:
  • myrtle beach 2006 - 4:03:26 (flat; key training runs: one 12-miler & one 14-miler; a spry 21-year old)
  • baltimore 2006 - 4:01:07 (not-as flat; longest training run: 12 miles; still agile at 22)
  • sunburst 2007 - 3:56:17 (a few 14-16 mile runs; hot temps day of race)
  • chicago 2007 - 4:46:31 (technically this race was cancelled so i was forced to walk like 10 miles to the finish; an aging 23-year old)
  • atlanta 2008 - 3:39:24 (not flat; the first marathon i actually trained for even though i was just using it as a training run for disney; a wise and mature 24-year old)
  • disney 2009 - 4:04:26 (flat; the day after i ran a 1:34 half so... yeah)
  • nyc 2009 - 3:33:02 (trained well for this one, although started having dizzy spells about 3-4 weeks before the race)
  • boston 2010 - ?:??:??
place your bets! get 'em in before monday at 10am est - no cheating allowed! :o)

Judging it down a bit only because you have struggled with vertigo and it's a hilly course

    HAVE FUN!

  2. Hmm, not as well trained as NYC and a tough course I think but more experienced than previous marathons...maybe 3:51:09. Or not.

  3. 3:46:00-3:48:00 - only because it is a tough course.

All the best, girl! Do us proud!

  22. By now all the good guesses are taken. Rats!!!

So lets go out on a limb. You start off a bit slow trying to fight through crowds and being caught up with the emotion that is Boston. The slow start makes you feel a little stiff and out of it. But then you look at your mile pace and realize that you are going much faster than you realize. In fact you're on pace to PR! This gives you a second wind. However, you are now going faster than you should and are a bit drained by the time heartbreak hill comes around. You manage to get past it and just decide to stay at a steady pace and enjoy the race from here on out. 3 hours 38 minutes and 57 seconds after starting the race you cross the finish line. Then it hits you: YOU JUST RAN BOSTON! You may not have pr'd, but you realize that you've achieved something few others have and the success of the day is yours!

  23. I hope yoy have a good race. I see your historical marathons, impresionant!! You're my heroe!!!

I think you can be about 3:45. You worth it.

    All my love from Spain.

Good Luck and enjoy your race

  24. 3:38:13...the average of your NY and Atlanta times, plus an extra 2 minutes for "The hill" and your training difficulties. Heck, you pulled a 3:33 at NY. Hey, maybe it was the "magic GU Gels" I gave you that helped?! Let me know if you need more before Boston. I'll be there with my wife, as you know, to try to find you among the masses, and cheer you on and tell you you're "Looking good" and "Almost there."

  27. I am sure that you will hit a sub 3:45. It's Boston for starters, and you rock. Best wishes whatever time you have. Qualifying for the darn thing was an accomplishment and getting to the starting line.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I say 3:45-3:46, but way faster if the vertigo thing was not a factor!

In any case, go and rock the course! I'll be cheering for you virtually and running with you in spirit!

  29. I think 3:37...I think you can do NYC again, but I'm giving you a couple of extra minutes for heartbreak hill :) Good luck you are going to be awesome!
