making progress

the nice thing about the particular bfe i currently reside in is that i can easily drive (1-2 hours) to a few better known cities such as louisville, cincinnati and indianapolis. so in the event i have a free weekend, it's relatively easy to find something to do.

yesterday morning i hopped on the mind-engaging hotel treadmill for a 35-minute run, and the hotel bike for a 20 minute ride. obviously nothing exciting to report.

saturday (3/28) am run: 4.1 miles, 35:00 (8:32 avg pace), avg hr (175)

j and i went down to louisville for the afternoon but i had no idea where i was going or what we were going to do. we ate lunch at the bluegrass brewing company, checked out two of the malls, and saw "duplicity" since it was raining anyway.

a small victory - i ran again today, third day in a row. j and i drove up to the kentucky side of cincinnati (florence, ky) to get a run in where there are sidewalks and civilization. i mapped a little route out on map my run that looked ok from the aerial view, but was a bit of a let down as we ran. it was chilly, rainy, and flurried after we finished. gross.

sunday (3/29) afternoon run: 7 miles, 1:03:00 (9:00 avg pace)

the 'famous' water tower - see story.

  2. ahhh.. the irony.

The water tower needed to be changed because a sign that tall could not be erected advertising a business, yet...

the new sign is the inspiration for the name of a festival that gives vendors on Main Street 4 days of increased business!

    Great story.

  4. Wait a minute. Kentucky is the civilized ide of the river? That area is one of the few I haven't had the pleasure of visiting. Sounds like I'm not missing a lot.

Oh well - I'm tired of hotel rooms and restaurants anyways. Although some Skyline chili sure sounds good about now!

  11. Lindsay I could not believe it when I saw the Florence Yall water tower on your blog. That is right in my back yard. (well about 40 min. away) That weather is what I have been dealing with all winter. Get out there for a nice easy long run. It feels so good to get out of the slump. Also thanks for your comments.

  12. I always wondered what kind of business the Virginia Erection company did. I guess it's all on the up and up after all.

  14. If you ever make it back to Florence/Cinci there is a nice enough running trail around Lunken Airport. My cousin lives in Florence and she's a big runner, so if you need any more route ideas, give me a shout and I'm sure she could help out.

And, there used to be a big Gap/Banana close out centre in Florence. Beyond the outlet mall concept, this is the place to find stuff cheap!
