welcome to the 21st century

i want to be in kentucky when the end of the world comes, because it's always 20 years behind. - {mark twain}
today my temporary home in kentucky voted "yes" to beer/liquor sales. i gotta admit i'm a little surprised they pulled it off. apparently some of the locals think that alcohol sales + bars = strip clubs and mud/jello wrestling. yep, jello wrestling. so common. i mean i can't even remember the last weekend that didn't involve jello wrestling. i'm not sure what will impact the economy more - alcohol sales or jello sales?

anyway i'm not a big drinker so this doesn't impact my life, just reporting the exciting news here in smalltown, usa.

sunday night i had another bout of insomnia and didn't fall asleep until after 1:30am. not very compatible with my 4am alarm, so i slept the extra hour and a half instead of running. then i indulged in too many m&m's and didn't quite feel like running after work so monday became my off day - hopefully the only one for the week.

this morning i was up and at 'em bright and early for a 4:30am run. i got in an easy 7.25 miles before hopping in the shower and rushing off to work. i contemplated running again after work, but decided to strength train again. hopefully the doms won't be as bad this week.

tuesday (3/2) am run: 7.25 miles, 1:04:17 (avg pace 8:52), 34* (woot!)

  1. I lived in Alabama for awhile, I know exactly what you're speaking about with the jello wrestling booze-fest! I lived in the only wet county within a 2-hour radius so was thankful for that occasional margarita! Nice pace and miles today, girl! I'm liking that a lot!! :)

  2. You're a running machine! Getting up at 4:00 in the morning for running... I don't believe it!! We know you're an addict runner girl...

I like how do you tell us, who you describe your running life.

  3. Strip clubs, mud and jello wrestling and booze-fests?! If that's the case, then I'm moving to Kentucky! I'm SO happy to see that you actually allowed yourself a day off on Monday. I know, you figured I'd say that. Nice job with the 4:30 a.m. run Tuesday. Hey, you actually run at my speed at times? Amazing! By the way, my local CVS doesn't have a sale on M+M's yet, so I'm holding out with my "M+M Fest 2010." P.S. I feel guilty that I still owe you a shirt. Come up with something to put on it, ok?!

  12. My town is "dry town", but at all borders have liquor stores;). You are amazing for getting up so early to run. Honestly! At 4am I would probably fall off the treadmill. So, I just realized that we are going to be in the same corral at Boston, along with Meg and Jenn. How fun!

  13. Small towns fascinate me! Maybe if it is sugar free jello, it might help the economy more, it is more expensive than regular, right? I keep thinking I would like to live in a small town but it might be too much culture shock...

  14. I live in a town which has a well known brewery in England. On some days when I am out on a run if the wind is in the right direction I can breathe in that aroma of hops and malt. Add some chocolate and you have 3 of my fav things chocolate , running and my downfall beer!

  15. the numbers 4:30 a.m. should never appear next to run....haha

  16. I'm from a dry county, almost practically dry state (Arkansas) so I know that's a big deal to get liquor sales passed. Maybe jello wrestling will make it to the Olympics one day.

  17. Georgia still wont sell alcohol in the stores on sundays yet bars can still serve. Go figure

  18. Yo, you got a race on the calendar yet? If not, enjoy the down time. Pretty soon you'll have a "plan" that will have to be followed.

  25. I loved Kentucky when I visited last Spring. I also love IPAs so I would have a hard time never being able to have a beer when I wanted to have one, especially on a hot Summer Saturday night :)

  26. I'm impressed...4:30 a.m. I've taken a little break from the 5:00 thing because hubby has taken a break from it. So, now I'm back to evening work-outs.

Bummer about the insomnia. Hate that when a good workout is planned.
