moonin' my honey: tahitian run

we awoke thursday to a slightly overcast day. we lounged around until lunch, walked over to tupuna pizza for a tahitian pizza, only 1500xpfs (~$17US). i learned the word “maururu” (thank you, pronounced mau-ru-ru) from the pizza guy. josh called me a dork for learning "hello" and "thank you". more bungalow-lounging after lunch, laid out on the deck, had afternoon coffee, and went for a run around 4pm. i have no idea what the temp was, i’d guess low 80’s? but it was breezy and not-humid (and i didn't sweat back then either, while josh was dripping).

house with a bunch of buoys; 1-mile

street signs; 2.5 miles

stray dog that hacked on josh after he petted it...
i think it's now safe to say that he didn't catch anything

km markers all the way around the island

random wooden sculptures

we ran again a couple days later, same out and back 5-miles. on the second run i got honked at by a big truck, score! we never saw others running, but we also never felt endangered. as with many other islands, there are lots of stray dogs but none chased after us.

7/22 run: 5 miles, 45:11 (avg pace 9:02)
7/24 run: 5.05 miles, 43:45 (avg pace 8:40)

somehow i was running slower than molasses pre-honeymoon (and now post-hmoon as well), but on the two honeymoon runs i felt fluid and gazelle-like. le sigh.

  9. I'm pretty tempted to go on a 2nd honeymoon, because I never got honked at by a big truck on my first.

One again, beautiful pics, and continue working your way out of the molasses.

  10. Nice running! Oh and congrats on getting married... I know a little late, but I just discovered the blog! ;-)

The trail run yesterday was good. Well, good for me, not so good compared to others, but I take it.

It really seems like there are not so many running bloggers in the area, but maybe we can get the movement going! ;-)

Oh and you should definitely try out Paris Mtn one of these days... it's really pretty and challenging.

  12. Great pics, once again. I love the hacking dog -- the expression on the dog's face is priceless. Funny how a change of scenery can really refresh the running... especially, I imagine, if the scenery involves Tahiti!

  13. So, so awesome. I've never encountered a "dog hacking" and I hope that I can keep that record.

What's the secret to taking pictures while running? I still have no good answer for this.

  14. Hmmm... Honeymoon = Lots of Time With Josh. Honeymoon = Faster Running Times. Therefore, Lots of Time with Josh = Faster Running Times. You aren't already trying to run away from him are you??? :) haha

Great pics and you are definitely not a dork for learning some of the native language!

  15. Hey, that shirt Josh is wearing looks vaguely familiar....hmmmm I think I have one just like it in my closet!!

Those pictures are beautiful. Josh certainly has a way with animals, too. :-) (Ruthie misses him, I'm sure.)

All your pics have been drool-worthy. I may be not a little bitter that you didn't pack me in your suitcase (however creepy that might've been).

  23. My wife and I specifically remember stray dogs from our honeymoon too. We even took pictures.

I enjoy learning a few words in the native language also. I can say thank you in probably 8-10 languages now. I might just have to run through them in my head before I get the right one out though.
